Perfect Sunday

For as long as I can remember Sunday has been my favorite day of the week. While Fridays and Saturdays might be fully packed with fun & games, Sundays always seem special no matter what I have planned. For one thing it's the one day of the week where I really allow myself to take time off and relax without a guilty conscience. And that's a pretty nice feeling when you're a student and more or less permanently stuck in study modus.
Also, for me Sunday has always been the one day when you make it a priority to do things one wouldn't think of doing or haven't got the time to do any other day of the week. Sleeping in, having a late feast of a breakfeast (we're talking eggs & bacon here!); visiting a museum; taking a stroll in the park, around the city or in Marka, the wilderness surrounding Oslo; drinking coffe with friends for hours on end (or even coffee shop marathon); reading a good book or magazine, or just attacking the stack of newspapers you've collected over the week (gotta keep up on what's happening, you know); lazying around the house etc... I'm pretty sure there's loads more.

Now, today has been as good as Sundays get. I slept in and caught up on sorely need sleep - only got 4 1/2 hours shuteye the night 'cause mum wasn't here before almost 4 am. Met up with Erle for a tour of the bric-a-brac marked at Birkelunden (every sunday from 12:00-17:00). This is definately a marked with a variety of stuff on sale: furniture come clothes & accessories come powertools. Erle got a jacket perfect for sping & summer and a blue ceramic mug, I didn't buy anything, though I came across a few nice things around the marked. For instance, I found several pairs of cool second hand shoes, but unfortunately none were my size. Champagne flutes with painted flowers on them, 2 small plates with a funky pattern, vintage (?) sunglasses (I'm regretting a little that I didn't buy them, but I'll survive), a set of draws from around the 1950's ...

AC joined us later on, and it was time for coffee. The weather wasn't up to scratch for a nice day out so we enjoyed our caffeine boost indoors at Parkteateret, and seated by the window gave us a good view of the life on Grüneløkka. E also happened to be looking for fun this Sunday, and it didn't take long before she'd joined us too. Lunch on the go from Sultan (børek & chocolate covered almonds with cinnamon - yum! - this is like the only sunday open grocery in the area, I think) and then we headed off to the weekly marked at Blå. This marked is more of a handcraft/design marked, though there's usually a few tables selling vintage clothing, shoes & bags, usually of a very high quality. Lots of funny little things to look at, such as postcards which looked like an optician's eyetest but had witty sentences instead of random letters. I ended up with a laminated illustration from an old magazine refering to an adventure in Paris. Cool drawing which caters to my wanderlust.

Dinner with F & hours spent lazying in front of the TV finished the day up nicely. Not really anything worth watching on (no different from any other day...), but it was just what was needed (BTW, really crappy programs showing these days. What happened to fun, enjoyable & braindead TV - and I don't mean reality shows 'cause they're just brainless).

The one - and only - negative thing today was the weather. It was totally unpredictable; sun, clouds, wind, rain, cold, warm - not exactly a perfect spring day...
